Welcome to Yearbook!

You must be very PASSIONATE about yearbook
to choose it as an elective (or co-curricular) class.
Yearbook is, indeed, an exciting and fun course,
and I look forward to working with you
all throughout the upcoming year.
However, yearbook is also very challenging and
requires a lot of TIME and COMMITMENT:
after school work (for which you get Community Service
hours) is a requirement to meet deadlines.
In this class, you will learn about page layout and design,
publishing, journalism, photography, and business skills.
Being a member of the staff is a huge RESPONSIBILITY,
but by the end of the year, you will have produced a book
that is valued by the students, faculty,
and the whole community.
You will derive an incredible sense of accomplishment;
YOU WILL JUST BE PROUD OF YOURSELF!

What is Passion?
Passion: Renewable Fuel for Success
Passion is knowing what you want and stopping at nothing until you get it.
Passion is an intrinsic, self-sustaining source of fuel for success.
Passion often means being different, being a pioneer, and having new ideas.  Passion is the driving force that keeps you going;
it is the force that drives you forward.  It is the vision of something better.
The difference between someone who is on fire about what they're doing and someone who is just "doing their job" is night and day.

What is Commitment?
You can tell when someone is committed to a cause. It's in the attitude.
The committed person asks, "What can I do to help? How can I do my best?"
The person who asks,
"What is the minimum I can do and still be part of this?
What can I get by with?" is only trying to appear to be committed.
The difference shows up in the attitude, and is readily observable.
This rule applies to work, to home life, to college, to everything really.

What is Maturity?
(from Courage to Change:
One Day At a Time in Al-Anon, page 63)

- Knowing myself;
- Asking for help when I need it and acting on my own when I don't;
- Admitting when I'm wrong and making amends;
- Accepting love from others, even if I'm having a tough time loving myself;
- Recognizing that I always have choices
and taking responsibility for the ones I make;
- Seeing that life is a blessing;
- Having an opinion without insisting that others share it;
- Forgiving myself and others;
- Recognizing my shortcomings and my strengths;
- Having the courage to live one day at a time;
- Acknowledging that my needs are my responsibility;
- Caring for people without having to take care of them;
- Accepting that I'll never be finished -- I'll always be a work-in-progress.

What is Success?
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

- To laugh often and much;
- To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
     - To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
- To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
- To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
- To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded!

Yearbook Quotes
Things that were hard to bear are sweet to remember.  ~Seneca

Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in,
and it will come naturally.
~David Frost

Don't live down to expectations. Go out there and do something remarkable.
~Wendy Wasserstein

If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door.  ~Milton Berle

We do not remember days; we remember moments.
~Cesare Pavese, The Burning Brand

The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers.
But above all, the world needs dreamers who do.
~Sarah Ban Breathnach, Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy, 1996
